STOP Auto Advance 169 Next: Islands of Marquesas 167 Back: More waterfalls! This is the village's "halau" or house of learning where poi is pounded. Poi comes from the roots of the taro plant and is served to anyone brave enough to try it. Taro is the staff of life in Hawai'i. A flooded field of taro is found just left of this shelter.
